TikTok Popular Songs
A TikTok sound is the audio attached to a post, and the TikTok app offers Top 50 and Viral 50 songs charts. Each returned record identifies a specific sound with its title, artist and sound ID, so you can build a music list and connect each entry to sound details or videos that use it.
Features
- Choose one of two songs chartsSet chart_type to top for Top 50 or viral for Viral 50. These are two named charts in the TikTok app; choose the one you want to review and request up to 50 entries.
- Identify the exact sound behind a song titleRead the title, artist, sound ID, cover and duration together. The sound ID helps distinguish audio clips with the same name and lets you look up that specific sound with TikTok Song or TikTok Song Videos.
- Read available sound usage countsWhen the source provides a count, metrics.videos_count tells you how many videos use that sound. It is a video count, not a count of listeners, plays or likes; an unavailable count stays null.
Parameters
| Parameters | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
chart_type | Optional | Optional chart choice: top selects the TikTok app Top 50; viral selects Viral 50. The default is top. For example, change the example value to viral to request the other chart. |
results_limit | Optional | Optional maximum number of songs, an integer from 1 to 50; defaults to 20. For example, 10 requests up to ten entries from the selected chart. The source may return fewer, and result pagination does not expand this limit. |
How to Use
The request starts a background collection task, so its first response gives you a task ID rather than the finished data; use that ID to check progress and retrieve the results.
- Choose chart_type: top for Top 50 or viral for Viral 50. If you omit it, the API uses top; results_limit defaults to 20 and accepts an integer from 1 to 50.
- Replace $SOCQ_API_KEY with your API key, or set that environment variable. Send the JSON request to POST /v1/tiktok/popular-songs with the Authorization header, then save the returned task_id.
- The first response contains a task ID because collection runs in the background. Query GET /v1/tasks/{task_id}; queued, running and retrying mean the task is still in progress. Read results after succeeded, or check error_message after failed.
- Read data.results.items. Each item describes a specific sound; audio.id is its sound ID, audio.artist names the artist, and metrics.videos_count is the available video usage count. An empty items array means no records were returned.
- If data.results.has_more is true, pass next_cursor unchanged as cursor to GET /v1/tasks/{task_id}?cursor=... and continue until has_more is false. This reads another page of the same saved task; it does not increase the chart collection limit beyond 50.
curl -X POST "https://api.socq.ai/v1/tiktok/popular-songs" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SOCQ_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"chart_type":"top","results_limit":20}'Best Use Cases
- Prepare a music review sheet: Choose Top 50 or Viral 50, then export titles, artists, sound IDs, durations and available video counts into a table. Your team can open the sound pages and review which clips suit a content idea.
- Collect examples of videos using a sound: Pass returned sound IDs as music_ids to TikTok Song Videos to collect public video examples. Review those videos yourself to understand how a clip is being used; this chart API does not perform that analysis.
- Compare separately collected chart snapshots: Save the selected chart_type, sound IDs, available video counts and collected_at each time you run a task. Join your saved tables by sound ID to compare returned songs and usage counts over time; the API itself does not supply historical rankings.
Pro Tips
- Keep chart_type consistent when comparing saved runs. Switching from top to viral changes the chart you selected, so a different song list does not by itself demonstrate a rise or fall in popularity.
- Use audio.id to link records across tasks and to request TikTok Song or TikTok Song Videos. A title alone cannot distinguish different sound clips with the same name.
- If audio.url is null, keep the sound ID and public sound-page URL for further research. When an audio URL is provided, treat it as an available media link at collection time rather than a permanent download address.
