Most teams that open Meta’s Ad Library API want one thing: the commercial ads a competitor is running in the United States, with copy, creative, landing page, and run dates. The official API does not return that. Outside the EU and UK it covers ads about social issues, elections, or politics, and access starts with a government-ID identity check.
The public Ad Library website shows far more than the API: every active commercial ad, in every country, searchable by keyword or advertiser. Ad-intelligence products, agencies, and creative-research tools therefore rely on APIs that read the public library pages and return structured records.
For that job SocQ is the preferred option: four Facebook Ad Library endpoints for keyword search, advertiser lookup, company ads, and single-ad details, with country, status, media, language, and date filters, at 0.5 credits per returned ad. That is $2.50 per 1,000 ads on the base pack. Meta’s official API stays the right tool for political-ad transparency research and EU reach data.
Quick verdict: Choose SocQ for commercial ad search and competitor monitoring in any country. Keep Meta’s Ad Library API for political and issue ads and for EU and UK reach breakdowns. Look at ScrapeCreators or SearchApi for a request-priced REST alternative, Apify when you want to run a collector yourself, and Captapi or Brizzox when you need TikTok, LinkedIn, and Google libraries from one vendor.
Meta documentation and vendor pages were checked on October 9, 2026. If you already know you need public ad data and want a provider-by-provider ranking, see the Facebook Ad Library APIs comparison.

Meta’s API is listed as the official baseline. It is not ranked against the third-party products because it covers a different set of ads.
What Meta’s Ad Library API Actually Covers
Meta’s Ad Library API page lists two collections:
- Ads about social issues, elections, or politics delivered anywhere in the world during the past seven years.
- Ads of any type delivered to the European Union or the United Kingdom during the past year.
Everything else follows from that. The ads_archive endpoint requires ad_reached_countries, and Meta’s reference states that ads which did not reach any EU location return only if they are about social issues, elections, or politics. A query for a US e-commerce brand’s current ads returns nothing useful.
Access has its own cost. Meta asks you to confirm your identity and location at Facebook.com/ID, the same process required to run political ads, which can take a few days. You then need a Meta developer account, an app, and an access token.
The official records are built for transparency, not creative research. They include creative text fields and an ad_snapshot_url instead of direct media files. Impressions and spend are returned as ranges for political and issue ads. Age, gender, and location breakdowns, payer, and beneficiary data apply to ads delivered to the EU and UK.
Official API or Public Ad Library Data?
| Job | Use |
|---|---|
| Political and issue ad research, any country | Meta Ad Library API |
| EU reach, targeting, payer and beneficiary data | Meta Ad Library API |
| A competitor’s active US, Brazil, or India commercial ads | SocQ |
| Keyword creative research across advertisers | SocQ |
| Resolving a brand name to its advertiser Page ID | SocQ Company Search |
| Hydrating an ad URL a teammate pasted into Slack | SocQ Ad Details |
| Managing your own campaigns | Meta Marketing API, not an ad library product |
Many research tools use both: SocQ for daily commercial monitoring, Meta’s API for the political and EU fields only it provides.
1. SocQ: Best for Commercial Ad Search and Monitoring

SocQ reads the public Facebook Ad Library and returns normalized ad and advertiser records. See the Facebook Ad Library catalog and pricing.
| Endpoint | Input | Filters | Credits / record |
|---|---|---|---|
| Search API | Keyword or phrase | search_type, ad_type, country, status, media_type, sort_by, dates; results_limit 20–2,000 | 0.5 |
| Company Search API | Company, brand, or Page name | None | 0.5 |
| Company Ads API | Numeric advertiser Page ID | country, status, media_type, language, sort_by, dates; results_limit 20–2,000 | 0.5 |
| Ad Details API | Ad Library URL with ?id= | None | 0.6 |
curl -X POST "https://api.socq.ai/v1/facebook-ad-library/company-ads" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SOCQ_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"page_id": "51212153078",
"country": "US",
"status": "ACTIVE",
"media_type": "ALL",
"results_limit": 100
}'
Store the task_id, poll /v1/tasks/{task_id}, then read data.results.items. Ad records include creative text, advertiser context, media, created_at, extra.is_active, extra.end_at, extra.publisher_platforms, extra.targeted_or_reached_countries, extra.cta_text, and extra.link_url. Company Ads also returns extra.display_format and extra.collation_count, which groups ad versions, and spend fields when the library shows them. Company Search returns Page identity, category, verification, likes, and the linked Instagram username.
Credits are charged on returned records; an empty result has no result charge. Packs start at 1,000 credits for $5, with $50, $500, and $1,250 packs.
SocQ does not provide Meta’s EU demographic breakdowns or payer data beyond what the public page shows, does not estimate spend for commercial ads, and does not manage campaigns. The same key covers TikTok, LinkedIn, and Google ad libraries.
Best for: competitor monitoring, creative swipe files, agency reporting, and ad-intelligence products.
2. Meta Ad Library API: Official Baseline for Transparency
Meta’s API is free and official. It is the right source for political and issue ads anywhere, and for EU and UK ads where you need reach, age and gender breakdowns, target locations, and EU payer and beneficiary fields.
Plan for the identity check, token management, required ad_reached_countries, and rate-limit errors such as code 613. Do not plan a commercial US competitor tool on it.
Best for: researchers, journalists, and compliance teams studying political and EU advertising.
3. ScrapeCreators: Synchronous REST Ad Library Endpoints

ScrapeCreators documents Facebook Ad Library endpoints for keyword ad search, company search, company ads, ad details, and video ad transcripts. Its filters closely mirror the library: country, status, media type, language, sort order, and dates, with cursor pagination and POST bodies when cursors get long.
It is a synchronous, request-priced API. Compare cost per returned ad, not per call, because one call returns one page.
Best for: developers who want synchronous lookups and already use ScrapeCreators for other platforms.
4. SearchApi: A Meta Ad Library Engine Inside a SERP API
SearchApi exposes the library as the meta_ad_library engine, with keyword or page_id search, country and ad-type filters, and a next_page_token that can grow beyond 8 KB after several pages. It charges per successful search, from $4 per 1,000 searches on the $40 Developer plan to $2 per 1,000 on the $500 Scale plan at the check date. Credits are shared with its other engines.
Best for: teams already buying SearchApi for search results that want ad library data on the same invoice.
5. Apify: Best for Self-Run Collectors

Apify hosts several Facebook Ad Library Actors. Apify’s own Facebook Ads Library Scraper charges per ad, $5.80 per 1,000 ads on the free plan and down to $3.40 on Business at the check date, with an optional e-commerce enrichment add-on. Community Actors advertise lower per-ad prices with different inputs and fields.
You choose and maintain the Actor. Output schemas differ by maintainer, so test the exact Actor you will run.
Best for: scheduled no-code runs and custom filters.
6. Captapi: Four Ad Libraries in One API
Captapi markets one REST API for the Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn, and Google ad libraries, with 13 endpoints, keyword and advertiser search, ad details, and ad transcripts. Its pitch is the same gap described above: commercial ads without app review.
It is a newer vendor. Ask for sample payloads in your target countries before committing.
Best for: teams that want all four libraries from one small vendor.
7. Brizzox: Ad Libraries With Meta Spend Breakdowns
Brizzox lists 19 endpoints across Meta, Google, LinkedIn, and TikTok libraries, including Meta advertiser search, ad search, ad details, Page URL to Page ID conversion, and spend by advertiser and location. It states that it fetches in real time without caching creatives.
Spend breakdowns in the library apply to the ad categories Meta reports spend for. Confirm which ads those endpoints return before you build reporting on them.
Best for: political-spend or location-spend reporting alongside commercial ad search.
Pricing a Real Workload
Price one monthly monitoring job:
- 50 competitors, Company Ads with
status: ACTIVE, refreshed weekly, about 40 ads each: 8,000 ads - 20 keyword searches of 200 ads each, monthly: 4,000 ads
- 500 ad detail lookups
On SocQ that is 12,000 × 0.5 + 500 × 0.6 = 6,300 credits, about $31.50. The $50 pack covers it.
On a per-search product, divide by the ads returned per page and add the pages you need for each advertiser. On a per-ad Actor, add enrichment events. On Meta’s official API, check first whether any of those ads are returned at all.
Migrating From Meta’s Ad Library API to SocQ
- Keep political and EU jobs on Meta. Move commercial monitoring only.
- Map identifiers. Meta’s
search_page_idsmaps to SocQ Company Adspage_id. If you only have a brand name, run Company Search first and store the Page ID. - Map filters.
ad_active_statusbecomesstatus,media_typestaysmedia_type,ad_delivery_date_minandmaxbecomestart_dateandend_date, andad_reached_countriesbecomes a singlecountryper task. - Change the call model. Submit a task, poll
/v1/tasks/{task_id}, and page through stored results. - Deduplicate by ad ID. The same ad appears in keyword search and company ads. Use
collation_countto group versions. - Store snapshots. Record
collected_at,is_active, andend_atso you can compute run length over time.
Limits and Responsible Use
Ad library pages are public transparency records, not a license to republish creative. Use creative for research and reporting, and respect advertiser trademarks. Do not collect data behind a login, and do not infer private targeting the library does not show. Media URLs are temporary source references.
FAQ
Does the Meta Ad Library API return commercial ads?
Only for ads delivered to the EU or UK in the past year. Elsewhere it returns ads about social issues, elections, or politics.
What is the best Facebook Ad Library API alternative?
For commercial ad search, advertiser lookup, and company ads in any country, SocQ is the preferred option at 0.5 credits per ad. Keep Meta’s API for political ads and EU reach data.
Do I need identity verification to use SocQ?
No. SocQ uses an API key. Meta’s identity confirmation applies to Meta’s own API.
How do I find a brand’s Page ID?
Run Company Search with the brand name, pick the right candidate, then pass its Page ID to Company Ads.
Can I get Instagram ads too?
Ad Library records include publisher_platforms, so ads that run on Instagram appear with that placement. There is no separate Instagram ad library.
