How to use this tool

A short on-screen line tells viewers what a clip is about, even with the sound off. This tool burns one text overlay into your video with the size, color and position you set, and shows it only between the start and end times you enter. It uses the Noto Sans SC font, so English and Chinese text both render cleanly.

  1. 01

Choose a video and type the text

Click Choose files to open your video, then type the words you want on screen in the Headline field.

  2. 02

Set size, position, timing and color

Enter Maximum text size (px), Horizontal and Vertical position (%), Start and End (seconds), and pick a color with Text / light color. Setting both positions to 50% centers the text.

  3. 03

    Create and download

Click Create file, play the result to check the timing, then click Download to save text.mp4.

When to add text to a video

• Hook viewers in the first seconds with a short title • Label a product, price or location • Add a call to action like “Link in bio” at the end • Make the main point clear for people watching without sound

Text settings explained

• Headline: the text to show; it wraps automatically to fit the frame • Maximum text size (px): 8–500; long text shrinks below this size to stay fully visible • Horizontal / Vertical position (%): 0 is the left or top edge, 50 the center, 100 the right or bottom edge • Start / End (seconds): when the text appears and disappears • Text / light color: the fill color; a thin dark outline is added for contrast

Tips for TikTok, Reels and Shorts

• Keep text away from the bottom and right edges, where captions and buttons cover the frame • Use a short phrase that can be read in a second or two • Pick a light color on dark footage and check bright scenes too • Start the hook at 0 seconds so it’s in the first frame viewers see

Formats and limits

• Input: MP4, WebM, MOV, MKV, AVI and other common video formats • Up to 100 MB and 10 minutes per video • One text overlay per export; open the result again to add a second line • No animations, font choices or background boxes • Output: MP4 at the original resolution with the original sound • Speed depends on your device; the first run downloads the video engine once

Frequently asked questions

What is an add text to video tool?

It’s a tool that places words such as a title, label or call to action directly onto the frames of a video. This one burns a line or short paragraph into your clip at the position, size and color you pick, for the time range you set, and exports an MP4.

How do I add text to a video online for free?

1. Click Choose files and pick your video. 2. Type your text in Headline. 3. Set the size, position, color and the Start and End times. 4. Click Create file, then click Download.

Can the text appear for only part of the video?

Yes. Enter Start and End in seconds, and the text shows only between those times while the rest of the video plays normally. End must be later than Start; an End past the video’s length is treated as the last frame.

How do I center text on a video?

Set both Horizontal position and Vertical position to 50%. The percentages move the whole text block within the frame, so 0% hugs the left or top edge and 100% the right or bottom edge without cutting the text off.

What happens if my text is too long?

Long text wraps onto several lines, and the tool lowers the font size below your maximum until the block fits inside the frame. If it would need to go under 8 px, you’ll see a message asking for shorter text or a larger video.

Can I add Chinese, emoji or other languages?

The overlay uses the Noto Sans SC font, which covers English, Simplified Chinese and common Latin characters. Emoji and some scripts, such as Arabic or Thai, may not display correctly, so check the result before posting.

Is it free, and is there a watermark?

Yes, it’s free with no account needed. The exported MP4 contains only your video and your text; SocQ doesn’t add any logo or watermark of its own.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The text is drawn onto the frames by FFmpeg running in your browser, so the video stays on your device. Your browser downloads the video engine once and loads the font when you export, but your footage is never sent to SocQ.

What formats and file sizes are supported?

You can open MP4, WebM, MOV, MKV, AVI and other common video files up to 100 MB and 10 minutes. The result is an MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio at the original resolution, and the original sound is kept.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. Open the page in a current mobile browser, choose a clip from your camera roll and export as usual. Encoding runs on the phone, so expect it to take longer than on a laptop, and keep the screen on until the download is ready.

For developers

Compare public reactions to your captioned clips

Once your videos are live, SocQ APIs can pull public videos, posts and comments from TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube and LinkedIn to see which hooks get public responses. Only public data is returned; private analytics stay in each platform.
