How to use this tool

Audio Converter re-encodes your file into one of two widely supported formats: MP3 for small, shareable files or WAV for editing. It runs FFmpeg in your browser, so the file stays on your device. You can also use it to pull the sound out of an MP4 or MOV video.

  1. 01

    Click Choose files

Select an audio file or a video with sound. Files up to 100 MB and 10 minutes are supported.

  2. 02

Pick MP3 or WAV in Output format

MP3 keeps the file small for sharing and uploading. WAV is uncompressed and imports cleanly into editing software.

  3. 03

    Click Process audio and download

Wait for the conversion, play the result to make sure it sounds right, then click Download.

MP3 or WAV: which to pick

• MP3: compressed, small and playable everywhere; encoded at 192 kbps • WAV: uncompressed 16-bit PCM, about 10 MB per minute, best for editing • Converting MP3 to WAV makes the file bigger but can’t restore quality lost earlier • For uploads to social apps, MP3 is usually enough

Input files it accepts

• Audio: M4A, AAC, WebM, OGG, Opus, FLAC, WAV, MP3 and other formats FFmpeg can read • Video: MP4, MOV and WebM; only the sound is converted • One file at a time, up to 100 MB and 10 minutes • Copy-protected (DRM) files, such as some purchased music, can’t be converted

Output settings

• Sample rate: 44.1 kHz • Channels: stereo; mono sources play in both channels • MP3 bitrate: 192 kbps, file name convert-audio.mp3 • WAV: 16-bit PCM, file name converted-audio.wav

Frequently asked questions

What is an audio converter?

An audio converter changes a sound file from one format to another so it plays or imports where you need it. This one outputs MP3 or WAV and can read most common audio and video formats. The conversion happens in your browser.

How do I convert audio to MP3 online?

1. Click Choose files and pick your audio or video. 2. Set Output format to MP3. 3. Click Process audio. 4. Play the result and click Download.

Should I choose MP3 or WAV?

Pick MP3 when you want a small file to share, upload or play on any device. Pick WAV when you plan to edit the audio in a program like Audacity or a video editor and file size doesn’t matter. WAV output takes roughly 10 MB per minute.

Are my audio files uploaded?

No. FFmpeg runs inside your browser, reads the file from your device and writes the converted copy there. The engine is downloaded once from a public CDN and then cached.

Is the audio converter free? Are there limits?

The converter is free, with no watermark and no daily limit. Each file can be up to 100 MB and 10 minutes long, and you convert one file at a time.

Can I convert a video to MP3?

Yes. Choose an MP4, MOV or WebM video with an audio track and select MP3. The picture is discarded and only the soundtrack is saved.

Which output formats are available?

Only MP3 and WAV. Both are accepted by almost every app, editor and social platform. If you need M4A, FLAC or OGG output, you’ll need a different tool.

Does converting improve sound quality?

No. Conversion can keep the quality you have, but it can’t add back detail that an earlier compressed file already lost. Converting a low-bitrate file to WAV only makes it larger.

Does the converter work on iPhone and Android?

Yes, in current Safari, Chrome and other modern mobile browsers. Larger files take longer on phones, and a computer is more reliable for files near the 100 MB limit.

Why did my conversion fail?

Common causes are a file over 100 MB or 10 minutes, a video with no audio track, a damaged file or a protected format. A dropped connection during the first engine download can also stop it, so reload the page and try again.

Need text instead of audio?

If you’re converting audio so you can transcribe it, SocQ APIs can return available transcripts for public YouTube, TikTok and Instagram videos, along with public post details. They don’t access private accounts or analytics.
