How to use this tool
Audio Trimmer cuts one section out of an audio file, or out of a video’s soundtrack, and saves it as MP3. You drag across a waveform to choose the part to keep, or type the cut points in seconds to be as precise as a tenth of a second. Processing runs in your browser with FFmpeg, which downloads once the first time you use it.
- 01
Click Choose files and pick a recording
Select an audio file or a video with sound, up to 100 MB and 10 minutes. You can also drag the file onto the button.
- 02
Choose the part on the waveform
A waveform appears under the upload row. Drag across it to mark the part to keep, and Start and End fill in. Tap the waveform to listen from that point, or click Play selection to hear only the chosen part; the line below shows the start–end, kept length and total length. You can also type exact values such as 12.5 and 41.
- 03
Click Process audio and download
The first run downloads the audio engine, then the cut is made. Listen to the MP3 in the player and click Download.
How to pick start and end times
Times count from the very beginning of the file. • 1:30 equals 90 seconds; 2:05 equals 125 • Decimals work, such as 3.25 • If End is past the file’s length, the cut stops at the end of the file • Leave about 0.2 seconds before the first word so it isn’t clipped
Files you can trim
• Audio: MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, FLAC, WebM and other common formats • Video: MP4, MOV or WebM with an audio track; only the sound is kept • Up to 100 MB and 10 minutes per file • Files without an audio track show an error
What you get back
• An MP3 at 192 kbps, 44.1 kHz, stereo • The audio is re-encoded, so it isn’t a bit-for-bit copy of the source • No fade-in or fade-out is added • To keep several parts, run the tool once per part and combine them with the audio joiner
Frequently asked questions
What is an audio trimmer?
An audio trimmer removes the parts of a recording you don’t want and keeps the section you choose. This one takes the part you mark on the waveform, or a start and end time in seconds, and exports that section as a new MP3. Your original file is left unchanged.
How do I trim audio online?
1. Click Choose files and select your audio or video. 2. Drag across the waveform to mark the part to keep, or enter Start and End in seconds. 3. Click Process audio and wait for the progress bar. 4. Play the result and click Download.
Is my audio file uploaded to a server?
No. The file is read by FFmpeg running inside your browser, and the trimmed MP3 is created on your device. The only download is the FFmpeg engine itself, fetched from a public CDN the first time and then cached by your browser.
Is the audio trimmer free? Are there watermarks or limits?
The trimmer is free and adds no audio watermark or intro. Each file can be up to 100 MB and 10 minutes long. There’s no daily cap on how many files you trim.
What format is the trimmed file?
It’s always MP3, encoded at 192 kbps, 44.1 kHz and stereo, which plays on almost any device. If you need WAV, convert the trimmed MP3 with the audio converter.
Can I trim the audio from a video?
Yes. Choose an MP4, MOV or WebM video with sound and set the times as usual. The picture is dropped and only the selected sound is saved as MP3.
Can I enter minutes and seconds instead of just seconds?
The fields take seconds only. Multiply the minutes by 60 and add the seconds, so 2:15 becomes 135. Decimal values such as 135.5 give you finer control. You can also skip typing and drag across the waveform instead.
Why do I get an error when I click Process audio?
Check that End is larger than Start and that both are numbers. Errors also appear if the file is over 100 MB or 10 minutes, has no audio track, or can’t be decoded. A weak connection can interrupt the first engine download, so check it and try again.
Does the audio trimmer work on phones?
It runs in current mobile browsers, including Safari on iPhone and Chrome on Android. Processing uses your device’s memory and processor, so long files are faster and more reliable on a computer.
Can I cut several sections at once?
Not in one pass. Trim each section separately and download each MP3, then put them together in the order you want with the audio joiner.
