How to use this tool

Screenshots and photos often carry details you don’t want to post: a face in the background, a username, an order number. This tool blurs one rectangle you draw on the image, leaves the rest sharp and saves the image at the original size (JPG stays JPG, other formats save as PNG). It’s handy for creators, support teams and anyone sharing screenshots publicly.

  1. 01

    Add a photo or screenshot

Click Choose files and pick a JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF image. The photo appears under the upload row as the live result, so you can see exactly where the blur goes.

  2. 02

Draw the blur area and set strength

Drag across the preview to draw the rectangle, or type its position and size as percentages. Effect strength is the blur radius in pixels, from 1 to 100.

  3. 03

    Check the result before sharing

The blur follows your box as you drag. Zoom in on the result to confirm the details are unreadable, then click Download, or Download ZIP for several files.

When to blur part of an image

• Faces of people who didn’t agree to be posted • Names, emails and phone numbers in screenshots • License plates, addresses or house numbers • Order IDs, QR codes or barcodes on receipts

How the blur settings work

• Horizontal / vertical position (%): the top-left corner of the box • Area width / height (%): the box size relative to the image • Effect strength: blur radius in pixels; values above 100 are treated as 100 • Dragging on the preview sets all four box values at once

Privacy tips before you post

• Use a high strength for text; a light blur can leave words readable • For card or ID numbers, crop them out or cover them fully instead of relying on blur • Check the full-size download, not just the small preview • Keep the original private; only the downloaded copy is blurred

Frequently asked questions

What is a blur image tool?

A blur image tool softens pixels so details become hard to make out. This one applies a Gaussian-style blur to a single rectangle you choose and keeps everything outside that box unchanged in the exported image.

How do I blur part of a photo online for free?

1. Click Choose files and pick your image. 2. Drag a box over the area on the preview. 3. Raise Effect strength if the details still show. 4. Check the live result and click Download to save the image.

Can it find and blur faces automatically?

No. There is no face detection, so you draw the area yourself, and each pass blurs one rectangle. To blur two faces in different spots, blur the first, download it, then open that downloaded file again and blur the second.

Is blurring safe for hiding sensitive text?

A strong blur makes text hard to read, but a weak blur over large lettering can leave it legible, and blurring is not a guaranteed way to destroy information. Set the strength high and check the full-size result; for card numbers, passwords or ID documents, cropping the area out is safer.

Is this blur tool free, with no watermark?

Yes. There’s no signup, no usage fee and no watermark on the downloaded image. Open the page, add an image and blur it as often as you like.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Blurring happens on a canvas inside your browser, and the edited image is created on your device. The image is never sent to SocQ, which matters when the whole point is to hide private details.

Which formats and file sizes can I use?

Choose JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF files up to 30 MB and 40 megapixels each. A JPG downloads as a JPG at 90% quality and other formats as PNG, both with the same width and height as the original, so a screenshot stays crisp outside the blurred area.

Can I blur several screenshots at once?

Yes. Select up to 20 files and the same box, set in percentages, is applied to each one. The preview shows the first file, so this works best for screenshots with the same layout. Download ZIP saves all the results together.

Why doesn’t the blur show up in my browser?

The blur relies on the canvas filter feature. Current Chrome, Edge and Firefox support it, as does Safari 18 or later; older Safari versions may export the area unblurred. If that happens, update the browser or use pixelation instead.

What’s the difference between blurring and pixelating?

Blur blends neighboring pixels into a smooth haze, which looks softer and suits faces or backgrounds in lifestyle shots. Pixelation replaces the area with large square blocks, the classic censor look. Both work on a rectangle you choose, so pick whichever suits the photo.
