How to use this tool
Sometimes a clip shows something that shouldn’t be public, like a license plate, an address, a screen or a logo you don’t have rights to. This tool blurs one rectangle at the position and size you set, for the time range you choose, and leaves the rest of the frame sharp. The rectangle stays in place, so it works best for things that don’t move.
- 01
Choose your video
Click Choose files and open the clip. Note roughly where the detail sits, for example in the top-right quarter of the frame.
- 02
Define the blur box with numbers
Horizontal and Vertical position (%) set the box’s left and top edges, and Area width and Area height (%) set its size. Then choose Effect strength and Start and End in seconds.
- 03
Create, check and download
Click Create file, play the result to make sure the box covers the detail the whole time, then click Download to save blur.mp4.
When to blur part of a video
• License plates, house numbers and street signs • Phone or computer screens showing private messages • Name tags, documents and price labels • Logos or artwork you don’t have permission to show
Blur settings explained
• Horizontal / Vertical position (%): the box’s left and top edges, measured from the frame’s left and top • Area width / Area height (%): the box’s size as a share of the frame • Effect strength: blur radius up to 20; small boxes are capped lower so the blur stays inside • Start / End (seconds): when the blur is on; the rest of the video plays normally • For a full-frame blur, use 0, 0, 100 and 100
Tips for TikTok, Reels and Shorts
• Make the box a little larger than the detail so small camera shakes stay covered • Use the highest strength for text, since a light blur can still be readable • If the object moves, split the clip, blur each part and join them again • Watch the full export before posting, since one missed frame can reveal the detail
Formats and limits
• Input: MP4, WebM, MOV, MKV, AVI and other common formats, up to 100 MB and 10 minutes • One rectangle per export; process the result again to blur a second area • The box doesn’t follow moving objects, and there’s no automatic face detection • Blur only; no pixelate or solid block style • Output: MP4 at the original resolution with the original sound • Speed depends on your device; the first run downloads the video engine once
Frequently asked questions
What is a blur video tool?
A blur video tool softens part of a video so details like text, faces or plates can’t be read. This one applies a box blur to one rectangle you define by position and size, during the time range you set, and exports a new MP4.
How do I blur part of a video for free?
1. Click Choose files and pick your video. 2. Enter the position, Area width and Area height of the box. 3. Set Effect strength and Start and End. 4. Click Create file, then click Download.
Can I blur the whole video?
Yes. Set Horizontal and Vertical position to 0 and Area width and Area height to 100, then pick a strength. Set Start to 0 and leave End empty to blur from the first frame to the last.
Can the blur follow a moving face or object?
No. The box stays at the same spot for the whole time range, and the tool doesn’t detect faces. For something that moves, make the box large enough to cover its path, or split the video and blur each part separately.
Can I blur only for a few seconds?
Yes. Enter Start and End in seconds, and the blur appears only during that range while the full video keeps playing. End has to be later than Start, or you’ll see a message asking for valid values.
How strong can the blur be?
Effect strength sets the blur radius, and the tool caps it at 20. For small boxes the cap is lower, a quarter of the box’s shorter side in pixels, so on low-resolution video a tiny box may still show rough shapes.
Is it free, and is there a watermark?
Yes, it’s free and you don’t need an account. The exported video has no SocQ watermark or logo; the blur you added is the only change to the picture.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The blur is applied by FFmpeg in your browser, so footage with private details never leaves your device or reaches SocQ. The video engine downloads once on first use and is reused after that.
What formats and file sizes are supported?
You can open MP4, WebM, MOV, MKV, AVI and other common video files up to 100 MB and 10 minutes. The result is an MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio that keeps the source resolution and sound.
Can I blur a video on my phone?
Yes, the page works in mobile browsers on iPhone and Android. There’s no drag-to-select box, so you enter the position and size as percentages, and because the phone does the encoding, longer clips take a while.
For developers
Monitor public comments on your videos
SocQ APIs can collect public videos, posts and comments from TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube and LinkedIn, which helps you keep an eye on public conversations after a video goes live. They don’t access private analytics or private messages.
