How to use this tool
Facebook shows the same cover in different frames on computers and phones, so text placed near the edges often gets cut off. This maker lays out your headline and tagline on a 1640 × 624 canvas, with an optional photo behind them, and saves the result as a PNG. It suits small businesses, creators and community Pages that need a clean cover without design software.
- 01
Enter your headline and tagline
Type the main message in Headline and a short line, such as your business name or current offer, in Subtitle or attribution. Keep the headline to a few words so it fits within three lines.
- 02
Pick colors or add a photo
Set the Background and Text / light color swatches, or use Choose files to add a JPG, PNG or WebP photo. The photo is center-cropped to fill the cover, with a dark gradient that keeps light text readable.
- 03
Check the preview and download the PNG
Check the 1640 × 624 live preview, which updates as you edit, then press Download. Upload the file to your Page and drag it into place before saving.
Facebook cover photo size and safe area
• Recommended upload: 851 × 315 pixels; Facebook won’t accept covers smaller than 400 × 150. • Computers show the cover in a 16:9 frame and phones in a 2.4:1 frame, both aligned left, so parts of the edges can be trimmed. • This tool exports 1640 × 624 pixels (about 2.63:1), twice the classic 820 × 312 desktop shape, for sharper text on high-density screens. • Your profile picture overlaps the lower left, so keep logos and small print out of that corner.
Design tips that keep text readable on phones and desktops
• Aim for a one-line headline; anything past three lines isn’t drawn. • Use strong contrast between the Background and Text colors, such as cream on deep teal. • Choose a photo with a quiet area on the left, since the text block starts there. • Look at your Page in the Facebook app as well as a desktop browser before you call it done.
How to change your Facebook cover photo
• Open your Facebook Page or profile and find the cover area at the top. • On a computer, click Edit cover photo; in the app, tap the camera icon on the cover. • Choose Upload photo and select the PNG you downloaded. • Drag the image to reposition it, then click Save changes.
PNG or JPG for your Facebook cover?
Meta says an sRGB JPG at 851 × 315 and under 100 KB loads fastest, while a PNG may look better when the cover includes a logo or text. This maker saves a PNG to keep lettering crisp; convert it to JPG after downloading if load speed matters more to you.
Frequently asked questions
What is a Facebook cover maker?
A Facebook cover maker is a tool that builds the wide banner image shown at the top of a Facebook Page or profile. This one combines your headline, tagline, colors and an optional photo into a single 1640 × 624 PNG you can upload right away.
What is the best size for a Facebook cover photo?
Meta’s recommended upload is 851 × 315 pixels, and the minimum is 400 × 150. Many designers work at double resolution for crisper text, which is why this tool exports 1640 × 624. Whichever size you use, keep important content near the center.
Why does my Facebook cover look cropped on mobile?
Facebook fits the cover into a 16:9 frame on computers and a 2.4:1 frame on phones, so the visible area changes with the device. Both views align to the left and fill the frame edge to edge. Short text kept away from the outer edges is the simplest fix.
Why is my Facebook cover photo blurry?
Blurry covers usually come from uploading a small image that Facebook has to stretch, or from heavy JPG compression. Starting from a 1640 × 624 PNG gives Facebook more pixels to work with. If your background photo is small, the tool still enlarges it to fill the canvas, so begin with a large original.
Can I use my own photo as the cover background?
Yes. Click Choose files and add one JPG, PNG or WebP image; it is center-cropped to fill the whole cover. A dark gradient is laid over the photo so light text stays readable. Files over 30 MB or 40 megapixels are rejected.
Where should I put text on a Facebook cover?
Put the headline in the middle band and away from the lower-left corner, where the profile picture overlaps. This maker starts the text about 8% in from the left edge and roughly a quarter of the way down. Preview the uploaded cover on your phone and shorten the text if anything gets clipped.
Does this work for Facebook group or event covers?
Group covers use 1640 × 856 pixels and event covers 1920 × 1005, so both are taller than this tool’s 1640 × 624 output. You can still upload the PNG, but Facebook will crop it to fit, which can cut into your text. For Page and profile covers, the output works as is.
Can I edit the text after creating the cover?
Yes. Change any field or color and the preview redraws within a fraction of a second. The page doesn’t save designs, so download the PNG you want to keep before closing the tab.
Are my photos uploaded to SocQ?
No. The cover is drawn on a canvas inside your browser, and your photo is read locally from your device. Nothing is sent to a SocQ server, and the finished PNG downloads straight from the page.
Is this Facebook cover maker free?
Yes, it’s free to use with no account or signup. Open the page, fill in the fields and download as many covers as you need. No watermark is added to the PNG.
