How to use this tool
Glitch text, also called Zalgo or cursed text, stacks Unicode combining marks above, through and below each letter so words look corrupted or haunted. It’s popular for horror posts, gaming names, Halloween captions and edgy comments. Type your text and choose a light, medium or heavy glitch to copy; the same text always glitches the same way, so the preview doesn’t jump while you type.
- 01
Type your text
Enter a word or short sentence. Short phrases work best because heavy glitch text gets very tall.
- 02
Choose a strength
Light adds a hint of distortion, medium looks clearly corrupted and heavy is full Zalgo with marks spilling above and below.
- 03
Copy and paste
Copy the strength you like and paste it into a caption, comment, bio, chat or gaming name.
How glitch text works
Unicode has more than 100 combining characters, such as accents and tildes, that attach to the letter before them. Normally a letter carries one or two. Glitch text piles several on each letter, choosing marks that sit above, through and below the line, so they overlap into a corrupted look. The letters underneath don’t change, which is why the text stays copyable.
Light, medium and heavy
• Light adds at most one mark in each position per letter. It reads easily and works in usernames. • Medium adds up to four marks above and below. The words are still clear but obviously glitched. • Heavy adds up to ten above and below each letter. It spills into the lines around it, so use it for one or two words.
Where glitch text works
Glitch text is ordinary Unicode, so it pastes into Instagram, TikTok, X, Discord, WhatsApp and YouTube comments. Match the strength to the spot: light glitch suits display names, medium works in bios and captions, and heavy is made for one or two words in a post or chat. Each app sets its own line height, so preview the effect where you plan to post.
Tips for readable glitch text
Keep the effect to a short phrase and repeat key information in normal text, so every reader, including people using screen readers, gets the message. Use regular text for titles and links people need to read or search for.
Frequently asked questions
What is Zalgo text?
Zalgo is a name for text covered in stacked Unicode combining marks, named after an internet horror meme. It looks glitched, creepy or cursed but is made of normal characters you can copy.
How do I make glitch text?
Type your text in the box, choose light, medium or heavy, and press Copy on that row. Paste it wherever you want the effect.
Does glitch text work on Discord, Instagram and TikTok?
Yes, in messages, captions, bios and comments. Light and medium glitch suit most places; preview heavy glitch before posting.
Why does the glitch look different in some apps?
Apps use different fonts and line heights, so tall stacks of marks get more or less room. The characters you copy are identical; only the display changes.
Can I use glitch text in a username?
Light glitch works best in display names. @usernames use letters, numbers, periods and underscores, so add the effect to your display name.
Why is the same text always glitched the same way?
The generator uses a fixed pattern based on the position of each letter, so the preview doesn’t flicker as you type and the copy matches what you see.
Can glitch text break a website or app?
No. Glitch text is made of ordinary Unicode characters and is safe for any device or app. Very long heavy text can overlap nearby lines, so keep it to a few words.
How do I remove glitch text?
Delete the post or message, or retype the words. The underlying letters are normal, so copying them into a plain text editor and deleting the marks also works.
Is my text uploaded?
No. The glitch effect is created in your browser and the text isn’t sent to SocQ or saved.
Is the glitch text generator free?
Yes. It’s free with no signup and no limit.
