How to use this tool
Instagram doesn’t notify you when someone unfollows, and it has no built-in list of people who don’t follow you back. This checker reads the follower and following lists from your own Instagram data export and compares them, so you never sign in or share your password. Compare one export to find accounts that don’t follow you back, or two exports from different dates to see who unfollowed in between.
- 01
Export your followers and following
In Instagram, open Accounts Center > Your information and permissions > Export your information (some versions say Download your information). Select only Followers and following, choose All time and JSON, then download the ZIP when it’s ready.
- 02
Add the export and pick a comparison
Click Choose files and select the ZIP, or the followers_1.json and following.json files from inside it with their original names. Leave Compare set to Followers vs following.
- 03
Create result and review the lists
Click Create result. Accounts under “You follow; does not follow you back” aren’t following you back. Save the lists with Download TXT or Download CSV.
How to download your followers and following from Instagram
Instagram lets you export your own lists from Accounts Center. Menu names vary a little by app version, and some accounts see Meta Account instead of Accounts Center. • Go to your profile, tap the menu (☰) and open Accounts Center • Tap Your information and permissions, then Export your information or Download your information • Create an export, choose your Instagram profile and pick Export to device • Under Customize information, select only Followers and following • Set Date range to All time and Format to JSON, then start the export • Download the ZIP from the same screen once Instagram has prepared it
Doesn’t follow back vs. unfollowed: which mode to use
• Followers vs following uses one export and lists accounts you follow that don’t follow you back, plus followers you haven’t followed back • Previous vs current followers needs two exports from different dates: add the older one first, then the newer one • In that mode, “Present earlier; absent from current list” shows who left between the two dates, and “New in current list” shows new followers A single export can’t tell you who unfollowed, because it only lists your followers at the moment you requested it.
Why this checker never asks for your password
Many unfollower apps ask for your Instagram username and password so they can scan your account. That hands a third party full access, and their automated activity can trigger Instagram security checks, temporary blocks or a locked account. A leaked password can also lead to a hacked account. This checker only reads files you downloaded yourself, so it can’t log in, follow, unfollow or post for you.
Reading the results correctly
• An account that changed its username between exports can show up as both gone and new • Deactivated, deleted or blocking accounts drop off your lists and can look like unfollows • Follows and unfollows after you requested the export won’t appear until you export again • Followers you removed yourself also disappear from your followers list
Frequently asked questions
What is an Instagram unfollowers checker?
An Instagram unfollowers checker compares lists of accounts to show who doesn’t follow you back or who stopped following you. This one works from the followers and following files in your official Instagram data export and runs in your browser. Because it needs your own export, it can only check your account, not someone else’s.
How do I see who unfollowed me on Instagram?
1. Download Followers and following from Instagram now, and again a few weeks later. 2. Set Compare to Previous vs current followers. 3. Click Choose files and add exactly two exports, older first and newer second; use the arrow to reorder them if needed. 4. Click Create result and check “Present earlier; absent from current list.”
How do I download my followers and following list from Instagram?
1. Open your profile, tap the menu and go to Accounts Center. 2. Tap Your information and permissions, then Export your information. 3. Create an export for your Instagram profile and choose Export to device. 4. Pick only Followers and following, set All time and JSON, and start the export. 5. Download the ZIP when Instagram notifies you that it’s ready.
Does Instagram notify you when someone unfollows you?
No. Instagram doesn’t send a notification or keep a list of people who unfollowed you; your follower count simply drops. Comparing two exports from different dates is a way to find out who left without giving your login to another app.
Do I need to log in or give my password?
No. The checker never asks for your Instagram username or password, and it has no way to access your account. Instagram itself may ask you to confirm your password when you request the export, but that happens on Instagram’s own screens.
Are third-party unfollower apps safe?
Apps that need your Instagram login carry real risk. They can see and act on your account, Instagram may flag their automated activity and restrict or lock the account, and your password could be exposed if the service is breached. Checking your own export avoids those risks.
Which files does the checker accept?
You can add the export ZIP or the followers and following files from inside it, in JSON or HTML format. Keep Instagram’s original names, such as followers_1.json and following.json, when you use Followers vs following. Each file can be up to 50 MB, and you can add up to 20 files at once.
Why does someone who follows me appear in “does not follow you back”?
Usually the export is out of date or the account changed. The person may have followed you after you requested the export, or changed their username, so the names no longer match. Request a fresh export and compare again, since the checker matches usernames rather than account IDs.
Is my Instagram data uploaded?
No. The ZIP is opened and the lists are compared in your browser, and only the followers and following files inside it are read. Your export isn’t sent to SocQ or stored, and the results are cleared when you close or refresh the page.
Is the Instagram unfollowers checker free?
Yes. It’s free with no signup, no account and no cap on how often you compare. Run it whenever you download a new export from Instagram, for example once a month.
For developers
Look up public Instagram profiles and posts
SocQ APIs return public Instagram profiles, posts and comments for your own apps and reports. They don’t access private follower lists or show who unfollowed an account.
