How to use this tool
To invert an image’s colors, add it here: the negative version appears instantly, with every color swapped for its opposite, black for white and blue for orange. Use it to turn a dark screenshot light for printing, view a scanned negative as a positive, or create a bold effect for a post or poster. Transparency is kept, and everything runs in your browser.
- 01
Add your images
Click Choose files or drop up to 20 images (JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF), each up to 30 MB and 40 megapixels.
- 02
Check the negative
Each red, green and blue value becomes 255 minus itself, so the result is an exact color negative. Transparent areas stay transparent.
- 03
Download
Click Download for one image or Download ZIP for a batch. JPG images are saved as JPG; other formats as PNG.
Common uses
• Turn dark-mode screenshots light before printing them • View scanned black and white negatives as positive photos • Flip a white logo to dark (or the reverse) for a new background • Create bold, surreal effects for posts, thumbnails and posters • Spot contrast issues in a design
How inverting works
Every pixel’s red, green and blue values are subtracted from 255. White (255, 255, 255) becomes black (0, 0, 0), and #F64C31 orange becomes #09B3CE blue. Run the result through again to bring the original colors back.
Scanned film negatives
Black and white negatives turn into positives in one step. Color negatives carry an orange base, so after inverting, finish them with a white balance adjustment in your photo editor for natural colors.
Frequently asked questions
How do I invert colors on a picture?
1. Click Choose files and add the image. 2. The inverted version appears automatically. 3. Click Download.
What does inverting colors do?
It replaces each color with its opposite and flips light and dark, like a photo negative.
Does inverting keep transparency?
Yes. Only the colors change; transparent areas stay transparent.
Can I turn a negative into a positive photo?
Yes. Black and white negatives come out as positives right away. For color negatives, add a white balance correction afterward to remove the blue tint left by the film’s orange base.
Can I invert several images at once?
Yes. Add up to 20 images per batch and Download ZIP saves them all.
Does it keep the image size and quality?
Yes. Width and height stay the same. JPGs are saved at high quality and other formats as lossless PNG.
How do I invert an image back?
Invert the result again to bring back the original colors. Keep your original file as the master copy for further edits.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Inverting runs in your browser, so your images stay on your device.
How do I find the inverse of a single color?
Subtract each RGB value from 255: #F64C31 becomes #09B3CE. To find a matching accent color, try the Complementary scheme in SocQ’s Color Wheel.
Is it free?
Yes. No signup, no watermark and no limit.
