How to use this tool
LinkedIn’s composer doesn’t show how your post will look to someone scrolling the feed, yet the first lines decide whether anyone clicks “see more”. This LinkedIn post preview draws your name, headline, text and optional image as a feed-style card at desktop or phone width, collapsed or fully expanded. Use it to tighten your hook, check line breaks and share a draft for approval.
- 01
Enter your profile line and post
Type your name in Creator name, your profile headline in Headline and the draft in Post text. Line breaks you type are kept in the preview.
- 02
Add an image and choose a width
Optionally click Choose files to attach one JPG, PNG or WebP image. Pick Desktop or Phone in Preview size; switching redraws the card at the new width.
- 03
Compare collapsed and expanded, then save
The live preview shows the shortened view; click Show full post for the whole text. Click Download to save the PNG for a review or approval thread.
How to write a LinkedIn hook that earns the click
Most readers decide from the first line or two. • Put the main point or a specific result in the first sentence • Keep the opening under about 140 characters so it survives on phones • Use short paragraphs and blank lines; walls of text look heavier on mobile • Save hashtags and links for the end of the post
LinkedIn character limits and the “see more” cutoff
LinkedIn doesn’t publish an exact cutoff, and it shifts with screen size, line breaks and attached media. • Posts can be up to 3,000 characters • Feeds often collapse text after roughly 210 characters on desktop and about 140 on mobile, or after a few lines • This tool’s collapsed view uses its own fixed points, about 260 characters on Desktop and 155 on Phone, so treat it as a guide • Check the first lines in the LinkedIn app before you publish
How to use the preview in your workflow
• Share the PNG with a manager or client for approval • Compare two hooks by creating a preview for each version • Check that the image and first lines tell the same story • Keep approved drafts alongside your content calendar
Frequently asked questions
What is a LinkedIn post preview?
A LinkedIn post preview shows roughly how a draft will appear in the feed before you publish it. SocQ’s version draws a feed-style card with your name, headline, text and optional image at desktop or phone width, and lets you download it as a PNG.
How many characters show before “see more” on LinkedIn?
There’s no official number, and it varies by device and formatting. Recent guides commonly cite roughly 210 characters on desktop and about 140 on mobile, and LinkedIn may cut sooner if your opening uses several line breaks. Write the hook so it works within the first one or two lines.
What is the LinkedIn post character limit?
A LinkedIn post can contain up to 3,000 characters, including spaces, line breaks and emoji. The text box here accepts up to 4,000 characters, so watch the counter and trim anything over 3,000 before you paste the post into LinkedIn.
How do I preview a LinkedIn post?
1. Enter Creator name, Headline and Post text. 2. Optionally click Choose files to add an image. 3. Choose Desktop or Phone in Preview size. 4. Check the live preview, use Show full post to expand, then Download the PNG.
Does this show exactly what LinkedIn will display?
No. It’s an approximation drawn by SocQ, not LinkedIn’s own renderer. Fonts, spacing, reactions and the exact “see more” point differ, and LinkedIn changes its layout over time. Use the preview to review structure and length, then confirm in LinkedIn before posting.
Can I see both the collapsed and the full post?
Yes. In the live preview, long text ends with “…”. Click Show full post to redraw the card with the complete text, and Show less to return to the shortened view.
Can I add an image, document or carousel?
You can add one JPG, PNG or WebP image, which appears below the text. Carousels, PDF documents, videos and polls aren’t supported. The image is cropped to a wide frame, so check that important details aren’t trimmed.
Is the LinkedIn post preview free?
Yes. You can use it without an account, and the downloaded PNG has no SocQ logo or watermark. Preview as many drafts as you like.
Is my draft sent to LinkedIn or SocQ?
No. The preview is drawn in your browser, so your text and image aren’t uploaded or posted anywhere. Nothing is published to LinkedIn; you still copy the final text into LinkedIn yourself.
Does bold or italic text show in the preview?
Only if the styling is already in the text as Unicode characters, and how those characters look depends on the fonts on your device. Create the styling with SocQ’s LinkedIn Text Formatter first, then paste the result here to check it.
