How to use this tool

A logo watermark or background photo often needs to sit softly behind text instead of covering it. This tool makes the entire image semi-transparent at the opacity you choose and saves it as a PNG that stays see-through in any editor. It doesn’t remove backgrounds or single colors, so it suits creators and designers building overlays, watermarks and layered social graphics.

  1. 01

    Choose your images

Click Choose files or drag in up to 20 JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF images, each up to 30 MB and 40 megapixels.

  2. 02

    Set the opacity

Enter a number from 0 to 100 in Opacity (%). 100 keeps the image solid, 60 is the default, 30 gives a faint overlay and 0 makes it fully invisible.

  3. 03

    Check and download

The result updates as you change the opacity. The checkerboard behind the preview shows how see-through the PNG is. Click Download or Download ZIP.

Opacity vs. a transparent background

Searches for “make image transparent” cover two different jobs. • This tool lowers the opacity of every pixel, subject and background alike • It doesn’t remove a background or turn one chosen color transparent • For a cutout with a transparent background, use SocQ’s Image Background Remover first • You can then bring the cutout here to make it semi-transparent

Good opacity values to start with

• 10–25%: subtle watermarks that don’t distract from the photo • 30–50%: background images behind headlines or quotes • 60–80%: soft overlays where the image should still be clear • 100%: no change, which is handy for comparison

Output and limits

• Always saved as PNG, which keeps transparency; a JPG would turn it solid • Areas that were already transparent stay transparent • Up to 20 images per batch, all at the same opacity • Social platforms often show transparent areas as white or black, so place the overlay on a background before posting

Frequently asked questions

What is a make image transparent tool?

It’s a tool that turns a solid picture into a see-through one. SocQ’s version applies one opacity level to the whole image in your browser and saves the result as a PNG, so the transparency is kept when you place it over other content.

How do I make an image transparent?

1. Click Choose files and select your image. 2. Enter a value in Opacity (%), such as 50. 3. Check the live result on the checkerboard preview. 4. Click Download to save the PNG.

Does this change the whole image or only its background?

The whole image. Every pixel, including the subject, gets the same opacity. To make only the background transparent, remove it first with a background remover, then adjust the cutout here if you want it see-through too.

Can I make one color, like a white background, transparent?

No. This tool doesn’t pick or remove a specific color; it changes overall opacity only. To remove a white or busy background, use SocQ’s Image Background Remover instead.

What opacity should I use for a watermark?

Try 15–30% for a logo watermark so it stays visible without hiding the photo. Add the logo here, download the PNG and place it on your image in your editor. A PNG logo with a transparent background works best.

Why is the result saved as PNG?

JPG can’t store transparency, so a semi-transparent image saved as JPG would become solid again. PNG keeps the opacity information for every pixel. Keep the file as PNG when you upload it to design apps.

What happens if I set opacity to 0?

The image becomes fully transparent and looks empty, though the PNG still has the original width and height. Use a value of at least 5–10% if you want something to stay visible.

Can I adjust several images at once?

Yes. Add up to 20 images per batch. They all get the same Opacity (%) value, and Download ZIP saves every PNG together in one archive.

Are my images uploaded?

No. The opacity change happens in your browser, so your images stay on your device and aren’t sent to SocQ’s servers. Results disappear when you clear the tool or close the tab.

Is this tool free to use?

Yes. It’s free without signing up, and the PNGs carry no SocQ watermark. Process as many images as you need, 20 at a time.
