How to use this tool
This noise remover runs FFmpeg’s afftdn filter, a frequency-based denoiser, inside your browser; it isn’t an AI model. It works best on steady noise such as microphone hiss, computer fans or air conditioning. Set how many decibels to reduce, process the file and compare it with the original.
- 01
Click Choose files
Select the noisy recording, either audio or a video with sound, up to 100 MB and 10 minutes.
- 02
Set Effect strength
This is the amount of noise reduction in decibels, from 0.01 to 50. Start at 12; higher numbers remove more noise but can blur speech.
- 03
Click Process audio and compare
Play the original and the MP3 one after the other, listening to the pauses between words, then click Download.
Noise it handles, and noise it doesn’t
Works well on: • Steady microphone or preamp hiss • Computer fans, air conditioning and other constant whooshing • Light room tone under speech Won’t remove: • Other people talking, music or TV • Traffic, barking, keyboard clicks and other sudden sounds • Echo from a large, bare room
Choosing the strength
• 6–12: gentle cleanup that keeps the voice natural • 12–20: stronger reduction for obvious hiss • Above 20: may cause a hollow or “underwater” sound • If you hear artifacts, step back down by 3 to 5
How the filter works
• FFmpeg’s afftdn filter splits the audio into frequency bands with an FFT • It lowers energy near the noise floor while louder speech passes through • Processing runs locally after a one-time FFmpeg download • The output is MP3 at 192 kbps, 44.1 kHz, stereo
For better results
• Start from the cleanest recording you can make; denoising can’t restore lost detail • Remove noise before you normalize, so the hiss isn’t boosted first • Trim long silent gaps if they still sound noisy
Frequently asked questions
What is a background noise remover?
A background noise remover lowers unwanted sound behind the main audio, such as hiss or fan noise. This one applies FFmpeg’s afftdn frequency-domain filter in your browser. You choose how strong it is and get an MP3 back.
How do I remove background noise from audio?
1. Click Choose files and select your recording. 2. Enter an Effect strength, starting at 12. 3. Click Process audio. 4. Compare with the original, adjust the strength if needed and click Download.
Does this noise remover use AI?
No. It uses a classic signal-processing filter, FFmpeg’s afftdn, which reduces noise across frequency bands. That makes it predictable and fast for steady noise, but it can’t separate a voice from music or crowd sounds the way AI speech enhancers try to.
Is my recording uploaded?
No. The filter runs in FFmpeg inside your browser, so the audio never leaves your device. The FFmpeg engine is downloaded once from a public CDN and then cached by the browser.
Is it free, with no watermark or limits?
It’s free, adds nothing to the audio and has no daily cap. Each file can be up to 100 MB and 10 minutes long, and you can reprocess the same file at different strengths as often as you like.
What format do I get back?
An MP3 at 192 kbps, 44.1 kHz stereo, named denoise-audio.mp3. Video files are accepted as input, but only the cleaned soundtrack is exported.
What noise reduction strength should I use?
Start at 12 and listen to the quiet gaps between words. Raise it by a few points if hiss remains, and lower it if speech sounds hollow or metallic. The allowed range is 0.01 to 50.
Why does my voice sound robotic or underwater?
The strength is too high for that recording, so the filter removes parts of the voice along with the noise. Lower the value and process again. For very noisy files, a little remaining hiss usually sounds better than heavy artifacts.
Can it remove wind, music or people talking?
Not reliably. The filter targets steady, broadband noise and treats changing sounds as part of the signal. For those cases, re-record if you can or use a dedicated speech-separation tool.
Does the noise remover work on my phone?
Yes, in current mobile browsers such as Safari and Chrome. Processing a long file uses a lot of memory, so phones are best for clips of a few minutes; use a computer for longer ones.
