How to use this tool

Text copied from a PDF, an email or a narrow column often arrives with a hard line break at the end of every line. This tool joins those lines back into normal sentences. Replace breaks with spaces, keep paragraphs separated by blank lines, or remove breaks completely, and tidy double spaces at the same time. Words split with a hyphen at the end of a line are joined back together, and Chinese or Japanese lines join without extra spaces.

Three ways to handle line breaks

• Replace with spaces turns every line break into a space, so the whole text becomes one paragraph. • Keep paragraphs joins lines inside a paragraph but keeps blank lines between paragraphs, which is usually what you want for PDF text. • Remove completely deletes breaks without adding a space, useful for codes, URLs or IDs that were split across lines.

Extra spaces and hyphens

Remove extra spaces collapses runs of spaces and tabs into a single space and trims the start and end. When a line ends with a hyphen and the next line starts with a lowercase letter, the hyphen is treated as a line-end split and removed, so “micro-” and “wave” become “microwave”. Hyphens before capital letters, such as in names, are kept.

Why PDFs add line breaks

PDFs store text as positioned lines on a page rather than flowing paragraphs. When you copy from a PDF, each visual line usually ends with a hard break. Emails, terminal output and text from narrow app columns behave the same way.

Need to add line breaks instead?

To add spacing to a caption, use the Instagram line break generator, which inserts invisible characters so empty lines stay in place after posting. For LinkedIn posts, try the LinkedIn text formatter.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove line breaks from text?

Paste the text, choose Replace with spaces, Keep paragraphs or Remove completely, and copy the cleaned result below.

How do I keep paragraphs but remove other line breaks?

Choose Keep paragraphs. Breaks inside a paragraph become spaces, while blank lines between paragraphs stay.

How do I remove line breaks from PDF text?

Copy the text from the PDF, paste it here and choose Keep paragraphs. Hyphenated words split across lines are joined automatically.

Will words split with a hyphen be fixed?

Yes, when the next line starts with a lowercase letter. A hyphen followed by a capital letter is kept, since it is often part of a name.

What does Remove extra spaces do?

It replaces runs of spaces or tabs with one space and trims spaces at the start and end. Choose Keep spacing to leave spaces exactly as they are.

Can I remove all line breaks without adding spaces?

Yes. Choose Remove completely. This is useful for long URLs, codes or numbers that were split across lines.

Does it work with Windows and Mac line endings?

Yes. Windows (CRLF), Mac and Linux (LF) and old Mac (CR) line breaks are all recognized.

Is there a length limit?

You can paste up to 100,000 characters, enough for a long document.

Is my text uploaded?

No. The text is cleaned in your browser and isn’t sent to SocQ or saved.

Is the line break remover free?

Yes. It’s free with no signup and no limit.
