How to use this tool

This screen recorder uses the screen sharing built into your browser, so there is no app or extension to install. Pick what to share, record for up to 10 minutes, then replay the clip and save it. Recording works on computers; most phone browsers don’t offer screen capture.

  1. 01

    Click Start recording

Your browser opens a sharing picker that asks what you want to share. Choose a Chrome tab, a single window or your entire screen.

  2. 02

Turn on audio and click Share

To include sound, switch on “Also share tab audio” (or system audio when sharing the whole screen on Windows), then click Share. The red timer starts counting.

  3. 03

    Stop, replay and download

Click Stop recording or the browser’s Stop sharing bar. Watch the clip in the player, then click Download.

What you can record and what you hear

The browser’s sharing picker decides both the picture and the sound. • Chrome tab: the page, plus its sound when “Also share tab audio” is on • Window: one app’s window, video only • Entire screen: everything on the display, plus system audio on Windows in Chrome and Edge • Your microphone isn’t recorded, so add narration separately with the voice recorder

Browser and device support

• Chrome and Edge on Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS: video plus tab audio • Firefox: screen and window video, without sound • Safari on Mac: screen and window video, without sound • Phones and tablets: most mobile browsers don’t allow screen capture from a web page

Limits to know before you start

• Each recording stops automatically at 10:00 • The file stays in this tab until you download it; closing the page or clicking Clear discards it • Resolution and frame rate follow what the browser captures • Nothing is stamped on the video, so there is no watermark

Tips for a clean recording

• Share a single tab so pop-ups and other apps stay out of view • Close unrelated tabs and mute chat apps before you start • Record short takes; redoing two minutes is easier than redoing ten • Keep browser zoom at 100% so text stays sharp

Frequently asked questions

What is an online screen recorder?

An online screen recorder captures your display from a web page instead of a desktop app. This one uses your browser’s built-in screen sharing and records the stream with the browser’s MediaRecorder. You end up with a video file you can replay and download.

How do I record my screen online?

1. Click Start recording. 2. In the picker, choose a tab, a window or the entire screen, and turn on audio sharing if it’s offered. 3. Click Share and show what you want to capture. 4. Click Stop recording, replay the clip and click Download.

Does it record system audio and my microphone?

It records whatever audio the browser shares from the source, such as a Chrome tab’s sound or, on Windows, the whole system’s sound. Your microphone isn’t captured, so voice narration needs a separate recording. Firefox and Safari share video only.

Is my screen recording uploaded anywhere?

No. The video is recorded by your browser and kept in this tab’s memory until you download it. SocQ never receives the file, and this tool doesn’t need to download any processing engine.

Is it free, and is there a watermark or time limit?

It’s free to use, and no watermark is added to the video. Each recording can last up to 10 minutes and stops on its own at that point. Start a new recording if you need more footage.

What file format does the recording use?

Chrome, Edge and Firefox save a WebM file with VP8 video and Opus audio. Safari may save MP4 instead. If an app won’t accept WebM, convert the file to MP4 with a video converter before uploading.

Can I record my screen on a phone or iPhone?

Usually not. Mobile browsers on Android and iOS don’t provide the screen-sharing picker this tool relies on. Use your phone’s built-in screen recording instead, or open this page on a computer.

Can I record just one browser tab?

Yes, in Chrome and Edge. Pick the tab option in the sharing picker, select the tab, and turn on “Also share tab audio” to include its sound. Other tabs you switch to during the recording won’t appear in the video.

Why did my recording stop by itself?

Recording ends when it reaches 10 minutes, when you click the browser’s Stop sharing button, or when the shared window or tab is closed. Everything captured up to that moment is still prepared for download.

Why can’t I start recording?

If you cancel the picker or block screen sharing, the tool shows a permission message. On a Mac, also allow your browser in System Settings > Privacy & Security under Screen Recording (Screen & System Audio Recording in newer macOS), then restart the browser and try again.

Work with public video data

Screen recordings capture your own work. To study public videos, posts and transcripts from YouTube, TikTok and Instagram, use SocQ APIs; they return public data only, not private account analytics.
