How to use this tool
Showing two clips at once works well for before-and-after results, reactions and comparisons. This tool fits each video into a matching panel, places them left and right or top and bottom, and exports a single MP4 that plays both together. It keeps the sound from the first video and stops when the shorter clip ends.
- 01
Add both videos
Click Choose files for the first video, which goes on the left or top and supplies the sound. Then click Choose second video for the other clip.
- 02
Pick a direction
In Direction, choose Horizontal for left and right, which gives a 960 × 480 video, or Vertical for top and bottom, which gives 640 × 720.
- 03
Create and download
Click Create file, play the result to check that both clips line up, then click Download to save side-by-side.mp4.
When to make a side-by-side video
• Before-and-after results for edits, makeovers or products • A reaction video next to the original clip • Two camera angles of the same moment • Comparing two takes, phones or settings
Layout options explained
• Horizontal: first video on the left, second on the right, each in a 480 × 480 panel, 960 × 480 in total • Vertical: first video on top, second below, each in a 640 × 360 panel, 640 × 720 in total • Each clip is scaled to fit its panel without cropping, with black bars where shapes differ • Both clips start together, and the result ends with the shorter one
Tips for TikTok, Reels and Shorts
• Vertical stacking suits phone screens better than left and right • Landscape clips fill vertical-layout panels best; vertical phone clips get side bars • Trim both clips so the action starts at the same moment before combining • Put the clip whose sound matters first, since only its audio is kept
Formats and limits
• Input: two MP4, WebM, MOV, MKV, AVI or other common videos, up to 100 MB each, 200 MB together and 10 minutes • Exactly two videos; no grids, picture-in-picture or borders • Output: MP4 at 24 frames per second with the first video’s audio • The result isn’t full HD or 9:16; resize it afterward if a platform needs an exact size • Speed depends on your device; the first run downloads the video engine once
Frequently asked questions
What is a side-by-side video maker?
A side-by-side video maker combines two videos into one frame so they play at the same time, a layout also called split screen. This one places your two clips left and right or top and bottom in equal panels and exports a single MP4.
How do I put two videos side by side for free?
1. Click Choose files and pick the first video. 2. Click Choose second video and pick the other one. 3. Choose Horizontal or Vertical in Direction. 4. Click Create file, then click Download.
Which video’s sound is used?
Only the first video’s audio is kept, if it has any, and the second clip plays silently. Swap the files if you want the other sound, or add a separate track later with SocQ’s Add Audio to Video tool.
What happens if the videos have different lengths?
Both clips start at the same time, and the result stops when the shorter one ends. Trim the longer clip first if you want a specific section of it to line up with the other video.
What size is the finished video?
Horizontal layouts export at 960 × 480 and vertical layouts at 640 × 720, both at 24 frames per second. These are fixed sizes rather than full HD, so resize the result afterward if a platform needs a specific resolution.
Can I combine more than two videos or make a grid?
No. The tool always uses exactly two clips in two equal panels. For three or more, combine two first and then pair the result with another clip, keeping in mind that each round makes the panels smaller.
Is it free, and is there a watermark?
Yes, it’s free and works without an account. The combined MP4 shows only your two clips, with no SocQ watermark, logo or divider added.
Are my videos uploaded?
No. FFmpeg runs in your browser and combines both clips on your device, so neither file is sent to SocQ. The first time, your browser downloads the video engine and keeps it cached for later runs.
What formats and file sizes are supported?
Each video can be MP4, WebM, MOV, MKV, AVI or another common format up to 100 MB and 10 minutes, with both files totaling no more than 200 MB. The output is an H.264 MP4 with AAC audio.
Can I make a side-by-side video on my phone?
Yes, the page works in current mobile browsers on iPhone and Android. Choose both clips from your gallery, pick Vertical for a phone-friendly layout and keep the tab open while the phone encodes the video.
