How to use this tool

Long recordings often need to be broken up for short Stories, a multi-part series or a platform’s length limit. This tool cuts your video into back-to-back clips of the length you enter, names them clip-001, clip-002 and so on, and keeps the sound. The last clip holds whatever time is left over.

  1. 01

    Choose your video

Click Choose files and pick the recording you want to break up, up to 100 MB and 10 minutes.

  2. 02

    Set the part length

Enter Seconds per part, from 0.25 to 600. A 10-minute video split at 60 seconds gives 10 clips, and one run can make up to 60 clips.

  3. 03

    Create and download the clips

Click Create file and watch the progress as each clip is encoded. Use the download icon on a single clip, or Download ZIP to save the whole set.

When to split a video

• Break a long video into Instagram or Facebook Story segments • Turn a talk or tutorial into a numbered multi-part series • Fit uploads under a platform’s length limit • Pull evenly spaced samples from a long recording for review

How splitting works

• Seconds per part: 0.25 to 600, the length of every clip except the last • The last clip contains the remaining footage, so it may be shorter • Number of clips: video length ÷ seconds per part, rounded up, up to 60 • Files are named clip-001.mp4, clip-002.mp4 and so on, in timeline order • Each clip keeps the original resolution and sound

Tips for TikTok, Reels and Shorts

• Choose a length that lands cuts near natural pauses, then check each cut • Add “Part 1” and “Part 2” labels with SocQ’s Add Text to Video tool • Post the parts in order so viewers can follow along • For a single custom cut point, trim the video instead of splitting it

Formats and limits

• Input: MP4, WebM, MOV, MKV, AVI and other common formats, up to 100 MB and 10 minutes • Equal-length parts only; no custom split points or scene detection • Up to 60 clips per run • Clips are re-encoded to H.264 MP4 with AAC audio • Speed depends on your device and the number of clips; the first run downloads the video engine once

Frequently asked questions

What is a video splitter?

A video splitter cuts one video file into several shorter files. This one divides your clip into equal-length parts that you set in seconds, numbers them in order and lets you save each one or the whole set as a ZIP.

How do I split a video into parts for free?

1. Click Choose files and pick your video. 2. Enter Seconds per part. 3. Click Create file and wait for every clip to finish. 4. Click Download ZIP, or download the clips one at a time.

What if the video length isn’t an exact multiple?

The final clip simply holds the leftover time, and every earlier clip uses your full part length. For example, a 35-second video split at 15 seconds gives clips of 15, 15 and 5 seconds.

Can I split a video at a specific time instead of into equal parts?

Not directly, because every part uses the same length. To cut at one chosen point, trim the video twice, once for each side of the cut. Setting Seconds per part to the cut time also works when the rest of the video is no longer than that time.

Why is there a limit of 60 clips?

The tool creates at most 60 clips per run, and each one is encoded separately on your device. If you see the limit message, increase Seconds per part; a 10-minute video needs at least 10 seconds per part.

Does splitting reduce the video quality?

Each clip is re-encoded to H.264 at a high quality setting and the original resolution, so most viewers won’t notice a difference. It isn’t a lossless copy, though, so processing the same footage again and again can soften fine detail.

Is it free, and is there a watermark?

Yes, it’s free with no signup or account. None of the clips carry a SocQ watermark, and the ZIP contains only your numbered MP4 files.

Is my video uploaded?

No. FFmpeg cuts and encodes the clips inside your browser, so the video stays on your device and isn’t sent to SocQ. The ZIP is also built locally before it downloads.

What formats and file sizes are supported?

You can split MP4, WebM, MOV, MKV, AVI and other common videos up to 100 MB and 10 minutes long. Every clip comes out as an MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio.

Can I split a video on my phone?

Yes, it works in current mobile browsers on iPhone and Android. Encoding many clips takes longer on a phone, and a ZIP has to be opened in your Files app before the clips can be posted, so downloading single clips may be simpler.

For developers

Follow each part of a series in public

SocQ APIs can gather public videos, posts and comments from TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube and LinkedIn, so you can follow how each part of a multi-part series is received publicly. Private analytics aren’t part of the data.
