How to use this tool

Twitch emotes have to be square and readable at tiny chat sizes, and resizing one picture into three exact sizes by hand is tedious. This tool takes one image, crops it to a square from the center and exports PNGs at 112, 56 and 28 pixels in one go. It’s for streamers preparing subscriber, follower or Bits emotes from art they already have.

  1. 01

    Upload your emote image

Click Choose files and add a JPG, PNG or WebP. A PNG with a transparent background works best; the image is cropped to a square from its center.

  2. 02

    Adjust the subject size

Leave Subject size (%) at 100 to fit the image, or raise it to zoom in, for example 130 to crop tighter around a face. Values below 100 don’t shrink the image.

  3. 03

Check the previews and download the three sizes

Once your image is added, emote-112.png, emote-56.png and emote-28.png appear and update as you edit. Download them one by one or together as a ZIP, then upload them in your Twitch Creator Dashboard.

Twitch emote size requirements

• Three square PNGs: 112 × 112, 56 × 56 and 28 × 28 pixels. This tool exports all three. • Twitch’s limit is 1 MB per file, and emotes from this tool are far smaller. • Twitch can also auto-resize a single larger square image, but checking each size yourself shows what chat really looks like. • Transparent backgrounds are kept, so upload a PNG with transparency if you want the emote to blend into chat.

Tips for emotes that read well in chat

• Use one bold subject, such as a face or a single symbol, with thick outlines. • Avoid small text; at 28 pixels it becomes unreadable. • Crop tightly with Subject size so the face fills the square. • Test the 28 px version against both light and dark chat themes.

How to upload emotes to Twitch

1. Open your Creator Dashboard and go to Viewer Rewards > Emotes. 2. Choose the emote slot, for example a subscriber tier. 3. Upload the three sizes, or turn on simple upload and use the 112 px file. 4. Add an emote code, then save and wait for review if required. Emote slots depend on whether you’re an Affiliate or Partner, and Twitch reviews emotes against its guidelines.

What this tool doesn’t do

It resizes and crops your image; it doesn’t draw emotes, remove backgrounds or animate them. To cut a subject out first, use a background remover, then bring the transparent PNG here. Only upload art you own or have permission to use.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Twitch emote maker?

A Twitch emote maker prepares images for use as emotes in Twitch chat. This one takes a single image, crops it to a square and exports the three sizes Twitch uses, 112 × 112, 56 × 56 and 28 × 28 pixels, as PNG files.

What size are Twitch emotes?

Twitch emotes are square PNGs at 112 × 112, 56 × 56 and 28 × 28 pixels, each under 1 MB. Chat shows the small size on most screens and the larger ones on high-density displays. This tool creates all three from one upload.

Can I keep a transparent background?

Yes. Upload a PNG with transparency and the empty areas stay transparent in every exported size. If your image has a solid background, cut out the subject first with a background remover, then resize it here.

How do I zoom in on a face?

Raise Subject size (%) above 100. At 150, for example, the tool crops one and a half times tighter around the center of the image. The crop always stays centered, so put the face in the middle of your source picture.

Can I make animated Twitch emotes?

Not with this tool. It exports still PNGs only. Animated emotes need a GIF and are created in Twitch’s Creator Dashboard or with an animation app, depending on your channel’s eligibility.

Do I need to upload all three sizes to Twitch?

You can upload all three for full control, or use Twitch’s simple upload with a single large square image. Uploading your own 28 px version lets you check that the emote is still clear at the size most viewers see.

Why does my emote look blurry at 28 pixels?

At 28 pixels there’s very little room for detail, so thin lines and small text blur together. Use a bold design with thick outlines and high contrast, and crop tightly so the subject fills the square.

Can I use these emotes on Discord or YouTube?

Yes. The PNGs work anywhere that accepts square images. Discord emoji are usually uploaded at 128 × 128 and YouTube channel emoji have their own requirements, so check the platform’s current size rules and use the 112 px file as a starting point.

Are my images uploaded to SocQ?

No. Resizing happens on a canvas in your browser, and your image is read from your own device. Nothing is sent to a SocQ server, and the PNGs and ZIP download directly from the page.

Is this Twitch emote maker free?

Yes. It’s free with no signup or watermark. You can resize as many emotes as you need for your channel.
