How to use this tool
The voice recorder captures sound from your microphone with the browser’s built-in recorder, so nothing is installed or uploaded. When you stop, an audio player appears so you can listen before saving. Each take can run up to 10 minutes on a computer or phone.
- 01
Click Start recording and allow the mic
Your browser asks whether this site may use your microphone. Choose Allow; if you have several mics, the browser’s default one is used.
- 02
Speak while the timer runs
The red dot and timer show that recording is on. Stay a hand’s width or two from the mic and pause for a moment before your first word.
- 03
Stop, listen and download
Click Stop recording. Play the take in the audio player, then click Download, or start again for another take.
Microphone permission in plain words
• The first time, the browser asks to use your microphone; choose Allow • If you blocked it, click the lock or mic icon in the address bar and allow it again • To use a different mic, change it in the browser’s site settings or your system sound settings • The browser shows a recording indicator while the mic is in use
File format and what to do next
• Chrome, Edge and Firefox save WebM audio with the Opus codec • Safari saves M4A when WebM isn’t available • Need MP3 or WAV? Open the file in the audio converter • Use the audio trimmer to cut silence at the start and end
Limits
• Each take stops at 10 minutes • The recording stays in this tab until you download it • Only the microphone is recorded, not sound playing on your computer • There is no pause button; stop and record a new take instead
Tips for clearer voice recordings
• Record in a small room with soft furnishings to cut echo • Turn off fans and close windows • Use a headset or USB mic instead of a laptop’s built-in mic • Run the background noise remover afterward if steady hiss remains
Frequently asked questions
What is an online voice recorder?
An online voice recorder records sound from your microphone in a web page and gives you an audio file. This one runs entirely in your browser using MediaRecorder. It suits voiceovers, voice notes and quick audio drafts.
How do I record my voice online?
1. Click Start recording. 2. Choose Allow when the browser asks for the microphone. 3. Speak while the timer counts up. 4. Click Stop recording, listen in the player and click Download.
Are my voice recordings private?
Yes. Audio is recorded and held in your browser tab, and SocQ doesn’t upload or keep it. If you close or reload the page before downloading, the take is gone, so save the ones you want.
Is the voice recorder free, and how long can I record?
It’s free with no sign-up and no watermark. Each recording can last up to 10 minutes and stops automatically at that mark. For longer sessions, record in parts and combine them with the audio joiner.
Does it save MP3 or WAV?
Neither directly. Chrome, Edge and Firefox save WebM with Opus audio, and Safari saves M4A. Convert the file to MP3 or WAV with the audio converter if an app requires it.
Can I record on my iPhone or Android phone?
Yes. Current Safari on iPhone and Chrome on Android support microphone recording on this page. Keep the screen on and the browser in front while recording, because switching apps can interrupt the microphone.
Why is my recording silent or very quiet?
The browser may be using a different mic than you expect, or the input level is low in your system settings. Check the input device and level, move closer to the mic and record a short test. You can raise the level later with the audio normalizer.
Why won’t recording start?
If the microphone is blocked or no input device is connected, the tool shows a permission or device message. Allow the mic in the address bar’s site settings, and on a Mac check System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone. Then click Start recording again.
Can I record audio playing on my computer?
No. This tool records only microphone input. To capture a browser tab’s sound, use the screen recorder in Chrome or Edge with tab audio turned on.
Can I pause and resume a recording?
No, there is no pause button. Stop the take and start a new one, then join the files in order with the audio joiner to make a single recording.
