How to use this tool
This webcam test shows right away whether your camera works and what others will see on Zoom, Teams or Google Meet. Press Start webcam test and allow camera access: the live preview appears with the resolution your camera delivers, the frame rate measured from real frames, the aspect ratio and the device name. Try 720p, 1080p or 4K, switch cameras and save a snapshot.

- 03
Switch, mirror or take a photo
Choose another camera from the Camera list, turn the mirror view on or off, and press Take photo to save a PNG snapshot. The latest six photos stay ready to download.
What the numbers mean
• Resolution: the size of each frame the camera sends, such as 1280 × 720 (720p) or 1920 × 1080 (1080p) • Frame rate: frames actually delivered per second, measured on this page; 30 fps looks smooth for calls, 60 fps suits streaming • Aspect ratio: the frame shape, usually 16:9 for webcams and 4:3 for some older cameras • Megapixels: width × height, a quick way to compare cameras • Facing: front or back camera on phones and tablets
Get a sharper, smoother picture
Most webcams lower their frame rate in dim light to collect more light per frame. Put a lamp or window in front of you rather than behind you and the measured fps climbs back up. A direct USB port, closing other camera apps and choosing 1080p in Quality also help. For TikTok, Reels or YouTube Shorts recorded on a webcam, check the picture here first, then record with the SocQ webcam recorder.
Fix a webcam on Windows, Mac, iPhone or Android
• Browser permission: click the camera icon in the address bar and allow access • Windows 10/11: Settings > Privacy & security > Camera, allow camera access and desktop apps • Mac: System Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera, allow your browser • iPhone and Android: allow the camera for the browser in the phone's settings • Privacy shutter: many laptops have a sliding cover or a camera key (often F8 or F10) • Close Zoom, Teams, OBS or other apps that may hold the camera, and reconnect an external webcam
Frequently asked questions
How do I test my webcam online?
Press Start webcam test and allow camera access. The live picture appears with the resolution and measured frame rate.
Is my video private?
Yes. The preview runs in this tab only, and snapshots stay in your browser until you download them.
Why is my picture mirrored?
Mirror view is on by default because it feels natural, like a mirror. Press the Mirror button to switch it off; photos are saved the way the preview looks.
How do I check if my webcam is 1080p?
Choose 1080p in Quality and read Resolution under Device details. 1920 × 1080 confirms full HD; the value shown is the highest size the camera, cable and browser deliver together.
What frame rate should a webcam have?
30 fps is the standard for video calls and 60 fps looks smoother for streaming. Good front lighting helps a webcam keep its full frame rate.
How do I unblock my webcam?
Allow the camera in the address bar and in Windows or macOS privacy settings, then press Start webcam test again.
Can I test a phone camera?
Yes. Open the page in your phone's browser. Front and back cameras appear in the Camera list, and Facing shows which one is active.
Can I test two webcams?
Yes. Connect both, press Start webcam test and pick each one from the Camera list in turn.
How do I test my microphone too?
Open the SocQ Mic Test for a live level meter and a playback clip, and the Speaker Test for your speakers or headphones.
Is the webcam test free?
Yes. It is free with no signup and no download, and you can test as often as you like.
