How to use this tool
A title that looks fine in YouTube Studio can get cut off once it sits under a thumbnail in search or on a phone. This YouTube title preview draws your thumbnail, title, channel name and view count as a video card at desktop or phone width, showing up to two lines of title. Creators and editors use it to compare title options and gather feedback before upload.
- 01
Enter the title and channel details
Type the title in Video title, your channel in Channel name and a number in Views. The view count is printed exactly as you type it, followed by “views”.
- 02
Add a thumbnail and pick a width
Click Choose files to add your thumbnail as a JPG, PNG or WebP; it’s cropped to 16:9, and a dark placeholder appears if you skip it. Choose Desktop or Phone in Preview size.
- 03
Check, compare and download
Check the live preview to make sure the key words appear in the first two lines. Edit the title and the preview updates so you can compare versions, then click Download to save the PNG.
How to write a YouTube title that survives truncation
• Put the topic and main keyword in the first few words • Make the title understandable within about the first 60–70 characters, even if the full title is longer • Let the thumbnail and title share the job instead of repeating the same words • Test two or three versions before you upload
YouTube title limits and how truncation works
• YouTube allows up to 100 characters in a video title • Search results, suggested videos and the home feed often shorten titles to around two lines, which many guides put at roughly 60–70 characters on desktop and fewer on phones • The exact cutoff depends on character widths, screen size and layout, and YouTube changes it over time • This preview shows at most two lines and hides the rest without an ellipsis, so its cut point is an approximation
What this YouTube preview includes
• A 16:9 thumbnail area, your title in bold, the channel name and a view count • Desktop (760 px wide) and Phone (420 px wide) card sizes • A PNG download you can share for feedback It doesn’t show duration badges, upload dates, channel avatars or Shorts layouts.
Frequently asked questions
What is a YouTube title preview?
A YouTube title preview shows how a video title might look next to its thumbnail before you publish. SocQ’s version draws a YouTube-style card with your thumbnail, title, channel name and views at desktop or phone width, and exports it as a PNG.
What is the YouTube title character limit?
YouTube allows video titles of up to 100 characters, and titles can’t include certain invalid characters such as < or >. The full title appears on the watch page, while search and recommendation feeds often show a shorter version.
How long should a YouTube title be?
There’s no single ideal length. Many creators make the title clear within roughly the first 60–70 characters, since that portion is most likely to stay visible in search and suggested videos. Longer titles are fine as long as the important words come first.
How do I preview a YouTube title with a thumbnail?
1. Enter Video title, Channel name and Views. 2. Click Choose files and add your thumbnail image. 3. Choose Desktop or Phone in Preview size. 4. Check the live preview, then click Download to save the PNG.
Why is my title cut off after two lines?
The preview shows up to two lines of title, similar to how YouTube video cards clamp long titles, and anything that doesn’t fit is hidden. Phone width wraps sooner, so shorten the title or move key words to the front if they disappear.
Is this exactly how YouTube will display my video?
No. It’s a simplified card drawn by SocQ, not YouTube’s own interface. Fonts, spacing and truncation differ between YouTube’s search, home, mobile app and TV layouts, and they change over time. Use it to compare options, then check the live video after publishing.
Does the preview format views like YouTube does?
No. The Views field accepts numbers only and prints the value exactly as typed, so 100000 appears as “100000 views” in English, while YouTube would show something like “100K views”. Treat the count as a placeholder for layout.
What thumbnail size should I use?
YouTube recommends 1280 × 720 pixels, a 16:9 ratio. This preview crops any uploaded image to 16:9 from the center, so a correctly sized thumbnail shows without losing edges. You can design one with SocQ’s YouTube Thumbnail Maker.
Is the YouTube title preview free?
Yes. It’s free to use without an account, and the PNG you download has no SocQ logo or watermark. Compare as many title versions as you like.
Are my thumbnail and title uploaded?
No. The card is drawn in your browser, so your thumbnail and title stay on your device and aren’t sent to SocQ or YouTube. Nothing changes on your channel until you edit the video in YouTube Studio yourself.
