How to use this tool

Getting paid by a brand, a client or a buyer through PayPal? Choose the payment type, enter the amount and the calculator shows the PayPal fee and what lands in your account. US PayPal rates used by the presets

• PayPal Checkout and most commercial payments: 3.49% + $0.49. • Sending and receiving money for goods and services: 2.99%. • Standard credit and debit card payments: 2.99% + $0.49. • International payments: an extra 1.50%. These are the standard rates on PayPal’s US merchant fees page for receiving payments in US dollars. Other countries, currencies and payment types have different rates, so choose Custom to enter yours.

How the fee is calculated

Fee = amount × percentage rate + fixed fee. On $100 at 3.49% + $0.49 the fee is 3.49 + 0.49 = $3.98. To receive an exact amount, the request is (amount + fixed fee) ÷ (1 − rate), so 100.49 ÷ 0.9651 ≈ $104.13. Amounts are rounded to the cent.

Other PayPal fees to plan for

The calculator covers the transaction fee, the main cost of receiving a payment. Currency conversion, instant transfers to a bank or card, chargebacks and some invoicing or point-of-sale options have their own fees, and personal payments between friends funded by a PayPal balance or bank account are usually free in the US. PayPal’s fee pages list the current figures for each.

Passing fees to clients

Freelancers and creators often add PayPal fees to an invoice. Say so clearly, for example “includes payment processing”, and check local rules and your agreement with the client. Some platforms don’t allow surcharges, so a slightly higher base price can be simpler.

Frequently asked questions

How much does PayPal charge to receive money?

In the US, PayPal Checkout and most commercial payments cost 3.49% plus $0.49, and goods and services payments cost 2.99%. International payments add 1.50%.

How do I calculate PayPal fees?

Multiply the amount by the percentage rate and add the fixed fee. For $100 at 3.49% + $0.49: 100 × 0.0349 + 0.49 = $3.98.

How much should I ask for to receive a set amount?

Choose Amount to ask for. The calculator adds the fixed fee and divides by (1 − rate). To receive $100 with PayPal Checkout, ask for $104.13.

What is the PayPal goods and services fee?

PayPal lists 2.99% for sending and receiving money for goods and services in the US, with no fixed fee on that rate. It adds buyer and seller protection that friends and family payments don’t have.

Are friends and family payments free?

Sending money to friends and family in the US is usually free when funded by your PayPal balance or bank account, but don’t use it for sales: it gives no purchase protection.

What does international add?

PayPal adds 1.50% for commercial payments from another market, on top of the domestic rate. Currency conversion is a separate fee.

Are these rates correct for my country?

The presets use PayPal’s published US rates. Rates and fixed fees differ by country and currency, so choose Custom and enter the figures from PayPal’s fee page for your market.

Does the calculator include currency conversion fees?

It focuses on the transaction fee. Currency conversion and withdrawal fees depend on the currencies and the transfer method, so add them separately if they apply.

Are my numbers stored?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and nothing is sent to SocQ or saved.

Is the PayPal fee calculator free?

Yes. It’s free with no signup and no limit. SocQ is independent and not affiliated with PayPal.
